The 2023 Nissan Altima gets a mild refreshening, but the changes improve the sedan’s appeal. New for 2023 items include altered frontend styling with LED headlights (now standard fare), new wheel designs, and a new 12.3-inch center display (replacing the prior 8-inch screen). A week-long test drive of the four-door had this driver craving more seat time. That’s due in large part to the NASA-inspired zero-gravity driver’s seat that doesn’t strain the body, making a three-hour long drive feel as pleasant as the trip’s start. Available in front wheel drive and all-wheel drive, the midsize Altima is also comfortable and roomy (35.2-inch rear legroom) for back seat passengers.

A 2.0-liter variable compression turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, producing 236 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 267 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm, powered the tested Altima. The sedan is also offered with a 2.5-liter DOHC 4-cylinder providing 188 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 180 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm in the FWD configuration. Engines mates to an Xtronic CVT (continuously variable transmission). Altima SR is flush with standard fare, including power moonroof, wireless Apple CarPlay/wireless Android Auto, and wireless phone charging pad. The tested Altima SR with 2.0-liter turbocharged engine collects estimated mpg of 25 city/34 highway and carries a suggested base MSRP of $34,990.
