No one who buys a Hummer H2 is looking for a mileage miser, so let’s not belabor the fact that H2 and fuel economy are not synonymous. Hummer H2 is one heck of a vehicle, though. Double that enjoyment factor if you’re the type of driver who wants (or needs) a vehicle that can easily plow through streams, climb skyward, and descend rough terrain. H2 has the ground clearance, the stamina and the guts (a 6.0-liter V8 engine producing 325 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 365 pounds-feet of torque at 3600 rpm) to go just about anywhere. And this SUV looks decent for the black tie events, too. With three rows of seats (the last row can be removed), there is no space pinch when packages and people travel together.

For the 2007 model year, H2 makes a rear vision system available. The pricey system ($1,350) provides the rearward view from an otherwise concealed viewing unit. This is how it works: When the four-speed automatic transmission is put in reverse gear, a roughly 3-inch by 3-inch screen automatically protrudes from the right side of the rearview mirror. It’s a great idea in light of the H2’s compromised rearward views, but the system proved to be nearly useless in rainy/snowy/ foggy weather as the live view was simply too murky. Although H2’s tailgate-mounted spare tire hinders immediate access to the tailgate, pushing a button and then pulling a pin enables the spare tire rack to swing free of the tailgate. MSRP of the Hummer H2 SUV is $53,175.
